Steve Perry (musician)

Steve Perry ( born January 22, 1949 in Hanford, California; actually Stephen Ray Perry ) is an American singer with Portuguese roots, which is also known under the name of "The Voice". He also composed film music.

Life

Perry grew up in a musical environment as his father Ray Pereira (who later changed his surname to Perry ) was a singer. At the age of ten he heard the song Cupid by Sam Cooke on the car radio to his mother; This inspired him to also become a singer.

His breakthrough came in the late 1970s as the lead singer of the band Journey. With his voice and his expressiveness, he went with the band to a total of six world tours. In 1984 he published under the title of Street Talk released his debut album as a solo artist. The first single Oh Sherrie, which he wrote for his then- girlfriend Sherrie Swafford, peaked in the Billboard charts in June 1984 3rd place, followed by three more singles, all of which could place in the Billboard charts themselves. In 1985 he was involved as a member of USA for Africa in the development of single We Are the World. He left the band Journey in March 1987.

In 1988 he again took on their own material. But the finished album Against The Wall initially remained unpublished. After a long pause, Perry began work on his next album For The Love Of Strange Medicine, which was released after several delays in 1994. With this album he went late 1994 to early 1995 in America on solo tour.

In 1991 there were a one-day reunion with his former bandmates; he played along with Cain and already on the Bill Graham Memorial Concert. This was the last live performance of the (albeit only partially occurred ) success occupation.

In 1996, then came to the seemingly final reunion of Journey.
