Steven Smith (footballer)

Steven Smith ( born August 30, 1985 in Bellshill, Scotland ) is a Scottish football player in the service of Portland Timbers ( MLS).

Career

Smith played in his youth at the Glasgow Rangers. During this time he suffered a severe pelvic injury, so he had his career almost have to quit before he had even completed a League game. But he recovered from the injury and finally gave in October of 2003, his league debut against Heart of Midlothian. However, Smith established until the winter of 2005/06 season in the starting eleven. He played on 22 February 2006 against Villarreal for the first time in the Champions League and signed an extension to his contract by two years in the same year. April 2006, he was awarded the title of best young player of the month and had secured his place in the starting eleven final as of this moment.

Smith was appointed in October 2006 to the squad of the Scottish national team for the European Championship qualifiers against France and Ukraine, but he was injured at this time in the thigh and no one could deny the two games.

On November 11, 2006 Smith scored in the 2-0 win over Dunfermline Athletic scored his first goal for his employer. In the winter of 2005/06 season, Smith injured again on the pelvis and completed over a year no longer a game for the Rangers.

In the summer of 2010, Smith moved to Norwich City, where he signed for 2 years. On 31 January 2011 he joined on loan until end of season to the Scottish first division club FC Aberdeen.
