Stráne pod Tatrami

Stráne pod Tatrami ( until 1948 slovak " Folvarky "; German Forberg or Foothill, Hungarian Tátraalja - to 1907 Forberg ) is a municipality in the north of Slovakia with 2130 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011). It belongs to Okres Kežmarok, a part of the Prešov Region.

Geography

The municipality is located in the eastern part of the basin Podtatranská kotlina, more specifically in the part Popradská kotlina the creek Stransky creek, under the High Tatras. The center is located at an altitude of 700 m nm and is located six kilometers from Kežmarok.

History

Stráne pod Tatrami was first mentioned in 1438 as Frowerk writing, but the local church is older origin. In the Middle Ages the town was a Vorwerk the nearby town Käsmark. After the Second World War, until then majority German population was expelled and there were Slovaks and Roma from the surrounding villages here.
