Streets named after Adolf Hitler

Adolf Hitler was a frequent namesake of streets and squares in the territory of the former German Reich and in occupied territories during the period of National Socialism.

There was a decree of the Reich Ministry of the Interior on the "Principles for the naming of streets " of July 1933, after which in every town the main street after Adolf Hitler was appointed. A notification was carried sometimes even against the background of Hitler's honorary citizenship in that city.

The renaming of streets and squares were part of the personality cult around Hitler and served the propaganda and demonstration of power. In addition, many streets and squares in the time of National Socialism were systematically renamed the purposes of the regime by names that were associated with dissent or about the Weimar Republic, were systematically eradicated.

After 1945 all the streets and squares with Adolf Hitler have been renamed as a name in the context of de-Nazification.
