Geography

Bargteheide lies on a glacial terminal moraine, 27 km north of Hamburg. Lübeck is located 32 km distance in a northeasterly direction.

History

Bargteheide emerged as Angersdorf in the High Middle Ages. It was first mentioned in 1314 as " Brektehegel ". Already in 1322 a parish was mentioned in a document of the Hamburg cathedral chapter for Bargteheide. In addition, the city in the 14th century had a regional central function as a resting and Ausspannort and market. 1475 bought Duke John IV of Saxe- Lauenburg the village, which belonged to the estate Tremsbuttel before. 1571 became part of the Holstein - Gottorfer rule and was under the old official Tremsbuttel.

• two high schools: Copernicus High School Bargteheide, gymnasium Eckhorst

There is also a Waldorf school, a special school, a music school and a community college.

The Anne Frank School Bargteheide ( Community School ) won the 100,000 euro German School Award 2013.

From 1954 to 1996 housed the former hunting lodge " Malepartus " a training center of the German Federal Post Office.

Economy

The largest employers in the town is the drive technology manufacturer Gear Nord, which is headquartered in Bargteheide since its foundation in 1965, where around a third of its approximately 2,500 employees worldwide (as of May 2008).

The belonging to princes reform company HB's Honey (formerly Oetker Group ) is headquartered in Bargteheide.

The discounter Aldi -Nord is established with one of its regional offices, plus a large central warehouse.

The automatically rolling end dog leash was invented in the early 1970s by Manfred Bogdahn in the city and is now marketed by the local firm Flexi and exported to over 50 countries.

The New Lübeck North German Cooperative eG, with their service center in Ahrensburg, manages about 232 apartments in Bargteheide.

Theater

The cinema and theater building was built in the 50s. Since 1991, there is a "Little Theater" which was awarded several times by the Federal Ministry of the Interior in Bonn and the State of Schleswig -Holstein for his good film program and frequently in the local press attracted attention because of its financial emergencies.
