On the site, which served among other things as a parade ground, a large new stadium to be built. The connection to the new sports venue proved to be a problem, because neither the station nor the lay in Cannstatt in Untertürkheim close enough for arriving visitors.

Karl Schaechterle of the Reichsbahn Stuttgart was planning a new railway station for special trains on the Eastern Railway, the Wasen station. In addition to platforms at suburban tracks of the Eastern Railway, a platform should be established to the remote tracks. For the trains running on the Schuster trains from Kornwestheim one of deeper platform would be available. To route the coming of Waiblingen trains to him, this would have had to branch off at the Remsbahnkurve to Untertürkheimer goods station. Another, slightly elevated platform was provided for the shuttle to Stuttgart Central Station. However Schaechterle could not realize his extensive vision that Reichsbahn refused.

The Federal Railroad reached into the 1960s, the plans for a new station on the Neckar Stadium. Since this would have seen the remote tracks of Filstalbahn and had already begun the considerations for a S -Bahn in Stuttgart, unrealized you the idea: Since 1978, operates between Schwabstraße and Plochingen the S-Bahn line S1, so that now a new S train stop could be planned in the vicinity of the stadium. In 1979 investigations carried out, traffic planners came to a positive conclusion. The breakpoint Neckar Stadion an der Alten Untertürkheimer road was finally inaugurated on 29 September 1984.

In 2008, the Gottlieb Daimler Stadium in Mercedes -Benz Arena has been renamed.
