Sugarplum Fairy

Sugarplum Fairy is a Swedish garage rock band from Borlänge.

The band considers itself to be heavily influenced by classic rock bands such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Clash and Oasis. The band's name comes from the famous primarily as a history of ballet The Nutcracker, but the band as a tribute to their idols - has been chosen because John Lennon with the words " sugarplum fairy, sugarplum fairy" to listening to the Anthology version - the Beatles einzählte of A Day in the Life.

Band History

Without greater attention to the members already played together six years, when it finally came in April 2004 with the first release, the EP Stay Young. Your first hit had Sugarplum Fairy in Sweden a little later with the single Sweet Jackie (September 2004). In the same month, the debut album Young & Armed followed ( in Europe and Japan in February 2005, published ) and early 2005, Far Away From It was released as a single.

On April 1, 2006, she presented at the Musikmesse in Frankfurt am Main for the first time in front of songs from their second album. The same was published on 18 August and is titled First Round, First Minute ( an allusion to Muhammad Ali ). Previously had already appeared the first single on August 4, a double A - side with the songs She and Last Chance.

In autumn 2006 they toured Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and were supported by Nice Boy Music.

Victor Norén played in the film The Wild Life, which was released in Germany on 1 February 2007, a minor role in which he embodies Mick Jagger.

More tours through Germany followed in 2007, where they played at numerous festivals (among Rock am Ring, Rock im Park, Bochum Total, Southside, Hurricane Festival, Frequency Festival and The Festival ).

In summer 2008 they made the first song of the new album already completed at some festivals before, including on the Abifestival in Lingen. In autumn 2008 the band finally released her in Málaga, Spain, and Hamburg recorded third album, The Wild One. The first single for Germany was the Sugarplum Fairy- atypical song "Never Thought I'd Say That It's Alright " followed by the cover of Bus Stop ( originally by the Hollies ). The video for the former was shot in Berlin at the Wannsee, the bus stop clip in Addis Ababa. For Sweden was the first single of the album opener "The escapologist ", to which also there is a video clip. End of March 2009 the third single for Germany was published, including self-produced and self- turned with hand-held camera video, "You Can not Kill Rock'n'Roll". The material for video comes in large part from the album recording time in which they were published single studio video blogs on myspace and youtube also during the current recordings.

Only a week before the album's release, the band began with their great tour that took them from Sweden via Germany to Austria and Switzerland. She was accompanied by the opening band Sahara Hotnights.

In September 2013, the drummer Kristian Gidlund died of a stomach cancer.
