Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University

The Open University of Sukhothai Thammathirat ( Thai มหาวิทยาลัย สุโขทัย ธร ร มา ธิ ราช, English:. Thammathirat Sukhothai Open University in short, STOU ) is one of two license-free universities of Thailand. Its headquarters is located in Pak Kret ( Nonthaburi Province ).

Symbols

The colors of the University are green and gold. Green stands for the traditional color of Wednesday, when King Prajadhipok (Rama VII ) was born, the gold color is the color for a successful future. The University of tree is Erythrina variegata derIndischer coral tree.

Mission and Goals

The Open University of Sukhothai Thammathirat has to make the goal of the principle of lifelong learning for many population stock and to increase the quality of life through increased training opportunities. To this end, the University offers distance-learning programs, which correspondence, radio broadcasts, television and other means including the students to develop study programs, without having to always consult a classroom.

History

The Open University of Sukhothai Thammathirat was launched on September 5, 1978 in life. Since then events will take place on 5 September each year to celebrate the establishment. The University was the first Open University in Southeast Asia, which had a tele-education system.

Naming

The name of the University goes back to King Prajadhipok (Rama VII ), which bore the title " Prince Sukhothai Thammathirat " before his accession to the throne and was awarded by King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
