Súľov-Hradná

Súľovský - Hradná (Hungarian Szulyóváralja - to 1902 Szúlyóhradna ) is a municipality in Okres Bytča within the Žilinský in Slovakia, with about 900 inhabitants.

The community is located within the Súľovské Hills in a small boiler at the creek Hradnianka (also Hradňanka or Hradná ). This mountain range is protected as part of the conservation area Strážovské hills. The only access road to the community consists of Predmier (main road 61) out in a transverse valley of Hradnianka by massive rock formations ( natural reservation Súľovské scaly ). The city Bytča is eight kilometers to the north.

The place Súľovský was first mentioned in writing in 1193 and belonged to the lower nobleman families of Súľovský of Hradná and Sirmiensis family. The population engaged in agriculture, livestock and wood processing. The district Hradná appears in 1408 for the first time in a document. The Súľovský castle (also called Roháč ) above Súľovský is mentioned for the first time in 1470. The Súľovský castle was used until 1780, after which it was abandoned and was pulled in an earthquake in 1858 damaged.

The district Hradná 1895 was the place Súľovský incorporated and so did the church today, then under the Hungarian name Szúlyóhradna, since 1907 Szulyóváralja. After the collapse of Austria - Hungary, the municipality located in the county Trenčín came to Czechoslovakia and located since 1993 in the present-day Slovakia.

In the municipality there are three Renaissance Castles, two churches and a chapel. North of the village rises the ruined castle Súľovský. However, the most famous attraction is the rock formations west of the municipality, which are used for climbing. Besides running in the area several hiking trails and cycling routes.
