Sulzfeld am Main

Sulzfeld am Main ( officially: Sulzfeld am Main ) is a municipality in the district of Kitzingen, Lower Franconia, and a member of the administrative community Kitzingen.

Geographical Location

The place is located in the southern Maindreieck between Kitzingen and Ochsenfurt. Sulzfeld am Main is conveniently accessible via the A7, A3, and over the railway connection Kitzingen. Hiking and biking trails in the neighboring communities are very well developed.

History

The first mention is found in the year 915 as Kammergut of the Bishopric of Würzburg. On August 8, 1266 took place before the Cyriac battle, one of the great knight battles of the Middle Ages, instead. In the Thirty Years' War sacked twice by the Swedes, the town was sacked in 1796 by French revolutionary troops. The possession of the Bishopric, which belonged to the Frankish Empire District, came to the secularisation of 1803 and the turmoil of the Napoleonic wars, after a brief membership in the Grand Duchy of Würzburg in 1814 finally the Kingdom of Bavaria.

Policy

Since the local elections on 2 March 2008 the council belong to the mayor and 12 ordinary members, all belonging to the municipal Sulzfelder list. In the spring of 2013, a nonpartisan group that Wählergemeinschaft per Sulzfeld was founded. At the local elections in 2014 this replaces with its own mayor candidates.

Culture and sights

The village has until now an almost completely preserved medieval fortification with 21 towers. It has largely maintained even be late medieval townscape. Sulzfeld is also known as Franconian wine town; known locations are the Sulzfelder Cyriakusberg and Sulzfelder Maustal. Sulzfeld also considered the birthplace of the meter bratwurst, a variant of the Franconian sausage. In a local guest house of consumption peaks of over six meters. The landlord assured: " Whoever breaks this record, which has all the consumption cost free".

The place was 2009 district and state winners of the competition " Our village has a future - Our village is beautiful " and awarded with gold medals. At the Federal decision of the place reached in 2010 among the 30 most beautiful places in Germany the silver medal.
