Šumice (Uherské Hradiště District)

Šumice ( German Schumitz ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located six kilometers east of Uherský Brod and belongs to Okres Uherské Hradiště.

Geography

Šumice lies at the western foot of the White Carpathian Mountains. The village is located in the Valley of Olšava at the mouths of creeks and Ovčírka Ledský creek. To the north rises the Goliáška ( 369 m ) in the north- east, the Babí horka ( 384 m), southeast of the Vrchůvky ( 355 m), in the south of the Black Mountain (319 m ) and the northwest Zmoly ( 347 m). Through the town, the railway line Brno- Vlárský leads průsmyk.

Neighboring towns are Nivky, Polichno and Rudice in the north, Kvašňová and Ústsko in the northeast, Bojkovice and Záhorovice in the east, Nezdenice and Nový Dvůr the southeast, Banov and Jakubovec in the south, Šumické pole - Králov, Nivnice and Nivnický Dvůr the southwest, Uherský Brod, Těšov and Újezdec in the west and Prakšice, Pašovice and Maršov in the northwest.

History

The first written mention of Schumitz was at 1380, when Hynek of Wallenstein sold it to Jan of Meziříčí. From this acquired in 1397 by Aleš Cimburg possession. He was succeeded by Jan von Cimburg, sold the Schumitz with the farm and the mill in 1406 to Martin of Hirsfeld. Since 1447 the place name Šumice is preserved. In 1671 the village was called Ssumitz / Šumice. In hooves register 1676 are reported for 96 Šumice estate, of which 16 were desolate. After the abolition of patrimonial Šumice / Schumitz formed in 1850 a municipality in the district team Uherský Brod. At this time, the character of Šumice from a small agricultural town turned into a mason village. The church was rebuilt in 1861 with financial support from Albrecht von Kaunitz, there was a stone church tower and entrance area was extended. Between 1883 and 1887 the Wlarabahn was built; 1888, she took on the traffic. In 1911 there were 216 Šumice Maurer, a large part migrated to the cities of Budapest, Vienna and Hamburg. 1919 Šumice was flooded by a heavy flood of Olšava. Here, 71 houses and 32 barns and railway bridges were destroyed and another 50 houses damaged. In the years 1927 and 1928 there was a regulation of Olšava and Ovčírka and the draining of wetlands in the direction Nezdenice and Rudice. Began in 1950 with the construction of a new church, only the foundations were completed by the account of the political situation. After the abolition of Okres Uherský Brod municipality was assigned to the Okres Uherské Hradiště the end of 1960. 1961 was built on the due date for the new church place a gymnasium for the elementary school. Consecrated in 1997 by Pope John Paul II in Prague the foundation stone for the construction of a new church. Since 2005 Šumice leads a coat of arms and banners.
