Sungji Hong

Sungji Hong (born 1973 ) is a South Korean composer. She lives in Thessaloniki.

Life

She studied composition at Hanyang University ( Seoul), the Royal Academy of Music ( London ) and Nicola LeFanu at the University of York. She attended master classes and workshops at Royaumont and Darmstad, where she was taught by Brian Ferneyhough, Theo Loevendie, Jonathan Harvey, Tristan Murail, Peter Eötvös, Toshio Hosokawa and Zsolt Nagy.

Hong's works were, inter alia, by the Nieuw Ensemble, Ensemble TIMF, Arditti Quartet, Ensemble Linea, listed Trio Mediaeval and the BBC Singers. Their music has been in 37 countries and major venues such as Carnegie Hall, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Konzerthaus Berlin and the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ presented. Her compositions were published at Dutton record label and the Edition of Contemporary Music.

She has won numerous international awards, such as the ACL Yoshiro Irino Memorial Prize and Theodore Front Prize.
