Sunn

Sunn is an American trademark, were prepared by the mid -1960s until 2002 guitar amplifiers and distributed. Founders of the Sunn Musical Equipment Company are standard Sundholm - bassist of today still active band The Kingsmen - and his brother Conrad Sundholm from Portland, Oregon. Due to the ever increasing performances by The Kingsmen in the 1960s and the fact that the performance of their stage equipment (standard Sundholms bass amps in particular) was not sufficient to spread the sound to the concert halls, the bassist was forced with his brother even build amplifier. In the mid -1960s were first manufactured amplifier for electric guitar and electric bass of their companies Sunn Musical Equipment Company. The built of the two brothers amplifiers were popular, and the company grew. After disagreements between the brothers got out of norm in the 1970s from the company. A little later Sunn was sold to the Hartzell Corporation, which continued the production of Sunn amplifiers. In the 1980s, the company bought Fender Sunn, and also introduced a long time ago Sunn Amplifiers, to 2002, the production of Sunn equipment was set. Today Sunn amplifiers are therefore no longer in free trade, but only available on the used market. Over time were built on 40 different models of sunn amplifiers. This amplifier had a big influence on the sound of various rock bands.

  • The booklet inside of the Kyuss album Blues For The Red Sun shows the Sunn Concert Bass amp head and a large speaker box with the inscription Kyuss, standing in a desert.
  • The band Sunn O))) has been named after the company, as Sunn amplifiers are characteristic of the sound of the band, especially the combination of electric guitar and Sunn bass amps.
  • Earth released a live album titled Sunn Amps and Smashed Guitars.
