Kyuss

Kyuss [' kaɪ.əs ] was a stoner rock band from Palm Desert, California. The band is considered the founder of the genre and was also the model for many other stoner rock bands. Since the sound fit in a product category, the band described himself as " desert rock " (English Desert Rock, today synonymous with stoner rock ). Style influences were, among others, down tuned guitars that have been played even through bass amps in some cases.

Band History

The band began in 1988 under the name " Katzenjammer ", changed this in 1989 in "Sons of Kyuss " and 1991 in " Kyuss ". The first demo album was released under the band name Sons of Kyuss. The band named themselves after a grim sorcerer from the " Dungeons & Dragons " role-playing game background " Greyhawk ". The band first played mainly on the ( initiated by the Friends of Josh Homme ) " generator parties " that took place in the desert in front of Palm Desert and quickly became famous. The name of the parties is because the power had to be supplied to the plant in the desert of generating sets. The fact that the performances took place at the gates of the city, was the fact that in Palm Desert a lot of old people live and the very loud concerts would have had in the city to complaints.

The initial cast was: John Garcia ( vocals), Josh Homme ( lead guitar ), Nick Oliveri (rhythm guitar), Chris Cockrell (bass) and Brant Bjork (drums). While recording the demo EP Sons of Kyuss Oliveri left the band after the release Oliveri Cockrells took position on bass and played shortly thereafter with his bandmates released their first album Wretch a, which consists largely of new recordings of their demo songs. 1992 published their second album Kyuss Blues for the Red Sun, which was produced by Chris Goss ( Masters of Reality ) and gave them the breakthrough from the underground scene. The latter should henceforth the band support for all projects, which manifested itself in the opinion of many critics in the sound of the following albums. After the release of Blues for the Red Sun Oliveri left again and finally the band and was replaced by Scott Reeder. In 1993, the band played a the successor Welcome to Sky Valley, but could only publish in 1994, as the record label caused problems. It was the last album that was involved in the drummer Brant Bjork, who had already picked out with Alfredo Hernández a successor. With this last occupation they went with the album Welcome to Sky Valley on tour before they retreated into the studio to produce a successor. Mid-1995 was released with ... And the Circus Leaves Town their last album before the band split in October 1995. After separation, a split EP with Queens of the Stone Age, Josh Hommes new band, as well as a best-of album was released.

After the dissolution in 1995, John Garcia has participated in countless other Stoner projects and publications include a four - track EP (Special Edition: plus five bonus tracks ) his own project Slo Burn. After Garcia sang in the band Unida, which has released an album. A second album of the band Unida was indeed completed, but never published. Currently Garcia sings in the band Hermano, which released her second and 2007, her third album in 2004. Parts of the band (especially the songwriter and guitarist Josh Homme ) were formed later re- Queens of the Stone Age, who brought it to commercial success. Also, drummer Brant Bjork devoted himself after his band exit 1994 other music projects. He played from 1997-2001 percussion with Fu Manchu and launched his solo career in 1999, arising from the current nine studio albums.

In February 2010 it was announced that singer John Garcia along with Bruno Fevery (guitar), Jacques de Haard (bass) and Rob Snijders (drums) will operate under the motto Garcia Plays Kyuss live. Per vote on Garcia's personal MySpace page, fans were allowed to determine which songs should be played.

In 2011, John Garcia, Nick Oliveri and Brant Bjork walked with the assistance of Bruno Fevery on guitar on tour with the new band name Kyuss Lives!. Due to a legal dispute with Homme, however, they had to change their name to the end of 2012 Vista Chino.
