Sunny Day Real Estate

Sunny Day Real Estate ( SDRE ) is an emo band from the U.S., which stood at Sub Pop under contract. It was founded in 1992 in Seattle and is considered one of the most style-forming bands of emo.

Band History

In 1992, bassist Nate Mendel and guitarist Dan Hoerner first met when they were roommates at the University of Washington. After a few jam sessions, they decided to engage William Goldsmith as drummer. The newly formed band was named " Empty Set" and took this name on a demo. After the completion of the demo, the band in " Chewbacca Kaboom " renamed because there was already a band called "Empty Set". After recording a second demo, the band named for a further Aml, this time in " ' One Day I Stopped Breathing". Later the band changed its name one more time, this time in "Sunny Day Real Estate". The name Mendel had the Talking Heads song " (Nothing But) Flowers" removed.

The band was looking for but more of a singer. After a female singer was taken into consideration, among others, guitarist Dan Hoerner decided to sing. With the occupation of Dan Hoerner (vocals, guitar), Nate Mendel (bass) and William Goldsmith ( drums) took Sunny Day Real Estate released their first single " Flatland Spider " on. Later Hoerner invited his high school friend Jeremy Enigk to play in the band. This took the offer and soon became the new lead singer and frontman of Sunny Day Real Estate.

In 1994, the first album of the band, " Diary", published by Sub Pop. The critics were mostly positive reactions, today it is considered one of the most important albums of the Emo. After several trips where Sunny Day Real Estate, a " mysterious " image built up (eg by refusing interviews or by refusing to perform in California), the band began recording their second studio album. 1995, shortly before the completion of the album, but separated due to SDRE inner conflicts. The material from the recording sessions was later released by Sub Pop as " LP2 " and is now considered the second album Sunny Day Real Estates.

After two years of silence ( where singer Jeremy Enigk his solo album "Return of the Frog Queen published ), there was a reunion with the album" How It Feels to Be Something On, " which brought a significant change in the music with them - SDRE now sounded softer and more mature. Nate Mendel, bassist now to the Foo Fighters, rose after the separation in 1995 not back in the band one, he was replaced by Jeff Palmer. according to Palmer's early exit from the band the role of bassist Joe Skyward was taken.

After the concert recording " Live" the band parted from Sub Pop, as they had felt restricted by the label. After a long search for a new label Sunny Day Real Estate came finally to the indie label Time Bomb Recordings, on the 2000, the fourth and final album by the band, " The Rising Tide", published. At this time SDRE had just separated by bassist Joe Skyward, whereupon Jeremy Enigk took over his role. After the release of the album SDRE undertook their first European tour, but had to be stopped abruptly, as Time Bomb Recordings after which the conveyed by the label album "Could You Please and Thank You" by Peter Searcy flopped and the Time Bomb Sunny Day Real Estate could no longer financially support. Disillusioned and disappointed, the band returned to the United States. Not a little later, Sunny Day Real Estate broke up.

After the dissolution of the band Jeremy Enigk worked on other solo albums, Dan Hoerner worked with Chris Carrabba of Dashboard Confessional songs. The Fire Theft with her same name, published in 2003, album considered as successor band Sunny Day Real Estates, however, is a guitarist Dan Hoerner, who has contributed in a large part SDRE song writing, no member of the band. Nate Mendel remained a member of The Fire Theft despite his bass work for the Foo Fighters.

After much speculation about a return of the band was in June 2009 that the Sub Pop label, the first two albums of the band in September of the year will again publish. The publications are accompanied by a tour for the band reunited in their original line-up - a new album was also not excluded.
