Sunstate Airlines is a regional airline based in Brisbane Australia. It is in the full possession of Qantas Airways, flying under the colors of QantasLink.

History

The origin of the company dates back to 1975, when Noosa Air began flying between Maryborough and Brisbane with a Britten- Norman Islander in December. Bevan Whitaker, businessman from Maryborough and owners of the parent company Whitaker Pty.Ltd founded a second airline called Sunstate, which took over from Trans Australia Airlines ( TAA) discontinued routes within Queensland in December. 1983 were fused together and continued under the name Sunstate Noosa Air and Sunstate. 1986 Sunstate partakers of the Murray Valley Airlines ( MVA), an airline founded in 1975 from Mildura. Following the task by financial problems of flight operations, Murray in October 1986, Sunstate took over the route network, as well as the machinery under the names Sunstate Airlines ( Mildura ). The company is now operating two independent flight networks. In 1987, Sunstate the route network of financially troubled Air Queensland.

In 1989 acquired Australian Airlines, successor to the TAA and former owner of liqidierten Air Queensland, 25 % of the shares in Sunstate. Meanwhile Sunstate Airlines ( Mildura ) had a 5 -year contract for ambulance flights with Ambulance Service of Victoria closed. 1990 Australian Airlines received the majority of Sunstate Airlines and Sunstate Airlines ( Midura ). The operation of Mildura was continued from 1 January 1992 under the name of Southern Australia Airlines. On October 1, 1993 Sunstate took over the Australian Regional Airlines with its fleet and flight network.

After Australian Airlines was acquired by Qantas on 30 October 1993 changed both South Australia and Sunstate their IATA code in " QF " by Qantas. In 1994, the Treaty of Southern Australia was extended for ambulance flights for another 5 years.

In 2001, Sunstate and Southern Australia went under the roof of the trademark of Qantas regional flights QantasLink ( Eastern Australia Airlines as well, Impulse Airlines and Airlinkbetrieb of National Jet Systems ) and thus lost most of their independence. The name Southern Australia disappeared after the union with Eastern Australia Airlines, remained the name of Eastern.
