Superga (brand)

Superga is an internationally renowned Italian sports shoe brand from Turin, whose roots date back to the year 1911.

Company History

1911 began, the Italian tire manufacturer Walter Martiny of Turin in his company Walter Martiny Industria Gomme with the production of waterproof rubber boots. 1925 Advanced Martiny the portfolio under the model name in 2750 to lightweight sports shoes cotton upper with a vulcanized rubber sole, the design of which was to become synonymous with the brand Superga. His company named after Martiny attraction in the nearby Sanctuary of Superga finally into Superga SpA. From 1934 came shoes for other sports, such as tennis or sailing time.

Superga shoes enjoyed over the years, first in the Italian domestic market, more and more popularity. In 1951, Pirelli, the majority of Superga and increased the production of shoes from two to 12 million pieces per year. From the 1980s, for the first time wearing apparel was put on the market for men and women under the name Superga. Contribution to revenue exporting countries included France, Spain and Germany. Especially the 1980s, including at times the Paninari were heydays for Superga shoes that had almost achieved cult status in Italy. In 1990 Superga, the French sports brand K-Way.

From the early 1990s, the company experienced due to strong competition from other sports shoe manufacturers, however, in a crisis. In 1993, the Pirelli Group sold the Superga SpA, together with K-Way to a large extent on the Milan finance company Sopaf SpA. The mid-1990s worked the C. P. Company founder Massimo Osti as a designer for Superga. In the late 1990s the Superga SpA seemed to have recovered and reported profits. The early 2000s were after slump in sales and heavy losses again difficult times for the shoe brand. 2002 sold Sopaf the Superga brand to Milan's sportswear company Formula Sport Group for 12.5 million euros.

The Turin BasicNet SpA, in 1995 by Italian entrepreneur Marco Boglione (* 1956 ) founded in 2004 acquired the worldwide license rights for Superga by Formula Sports and bought the company the Superga 2007 Brand finally completely. To BasicNet owns the brands Kappa, Robe di Kappa, Superga, K -Way, Jesus Jeans, AnziBesson and Lanzera. The license rights for the North American market forgave BasicNet 2007 to the U.S. shoe manufacturer RG Barry and finally in 2011 to the American shoe designer Steve Madden. Madden again undertook the twins Mary -Kate and Ashley Olsen as chief designers for Superga North America.

Beginning of the 2010s was Superga with over 210 mono-brand stores, which were mainly franchised, represented in about 70 countries worldwide.
