The SuperStar Gemini is a cruise ship in the shipping company Star Cruises. It was built in 1992 as a legend Ward and 1998 extended to 40 meters and renamed the Norwegian Dream. 2012 the ship received the name SuperStar Gemini. Sister ship, the Super Star Aquarius.

History

The legend Ward was completed on 6 December 1992 in France by Chantiers de l' Atlantique. The ship then cost 240 million U.S. dollars. It was 190 m long, 28.50 m wide and had a draft of 7.0 m well. The ship was used by the cruise line in the Caribbean, around Australia and New Zealand and Europe.

In April 1998, the legend Ward came to the Lloyd Werft in Bremerhaven. Here she met her sister ship, the Norwegian Wind, which has already been extended. Within 60 days of the legend Ward became the Norwegian Dream. The ship was cut in half and lengthened by 40 m to 230 m. The work was documented by ARTE in a broadcast on 19 January 1999 movie. On 12 May 1998 the ship got its new name.

Since May 14, 1998, the Norwegian Dream went in the summer every 12 days through the Kiel Canal. The maximum usable length of canal locks is 235 meters, five meters more than the dimensions of the ship. To ensure safe driving under the bridges, the chimney was hydraulically folded before the channel passage.

The Norwegian Cruise Line sold the ship on 23 April 2008 to Louise Cruise Lines. On 4 October, Louise Cruise Lines canceled the purchase again. The ship was for sale again since then. The Last Voyage of the NCL flag ended November 2, 2008 in Boston.

On 5 November 2008 the ship ran out, to be launched in the Bahamas in Freeport for two months. On 17 April 2009 left the Norwegian Dream Freeport, reaching 26 April 2009 the port of Gibraltar. As of September 2009, they launched before the Cycladic island of Syros. In May 2011, the ship sailed to Singapore where it was sighted in June in a shipyard.

End of April 2012 it was announced that the Norwegian Dream is placed in service after renovation for the parent company Star Cruises. On August 28, 2012, the ship in the port of Pulau Pinang (Malaysia ) renamed SuperStar Gemini. The name change was made on a small scale at the carrier-owned pier of Star Cruises. Then the ship was hauled into the yard, where it was rebuilt and renovated before being used since 2013 on new routes in Asia.

Incidents

On 24 August 1999, the Norwegian Dream rammed at night in the English Channel Taiwanese container ship Ever Decent. There were no serious injuries, but damage in the millions. After the accident, the Norwegian Dream was repaired at the Lloyd shipyard in Bremerhaven.

On July 25, 2001, the Norwegian Dream rammed while maneuvering in the Copenhagen harbor a bump the rear end. There was no great damage.

In March 2002, the Norwegian Dream lost its hatch in the port of Valparaíso. The hatch had to be recovered by divers. After a brief inspection of the hatch, this could again be attached and run the ship an hour late.

On 15 August 2003, the Norwegian Dream by the wind in the switch Schülp ( alternative location in the North Sea-Baltic Canal ) was pressed into the dolphins. One of the two propellers has been damaged. In the lock Holtenau appeared two inspectors to inspect the damage. After a nearly three-hour wait time in the lock, the Norwegian Dream ran out towards Tallinn, where the damage was repaired during the regular demurrage.

On 10 December 2007, the Norwegian Dream collided on the journey from Buenos Aires to Valparaiso in the port of Montevideo with a cargo barge and was slightly damaged at the bow above the waterline. The damage could be repaired within three days. The captain went with the consent of the local authorities in Montevideo from board to contribute to the clarification of the incident. He was the captain of Marco Polo, who also was in port, replaced, since this was on the way to your holiday. In the drive to Cape Horn, the machine suffered a short blackout, which could be remedied with the system restarts. During the journey, the Staff Captain has taken command and maintained until February 2008.
