Suzanne Pleshette

Suzanne Pleshette ( born January 31, 1937 in New York City; † January 19, 2008 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American actress.

Life

Suzanne Pleshette was born in 1937 as the only child of dancer Gloria Kaplan and the theater manager Eugene Pleshette in the New York City borough of Brooklyn Heights. At the age of twelve, she attended the New York High School of the performing arts, then followed the Syracuse University, Finch College and Sanford Meisner's acting school.

In 1964 she married actor Troy Donahue, but the marriage lasted only eight months. 1968 the wedding with the entrepreneur Thomas J. Gallagher. The marriage lasted up to Gallagher's death in 2000. 2001 Pleshette married the actor Tom Poston († 2007).

One of her first film roles played Pleshette 1958 in the Jerry Lewis movie Geisha Boy ( The Geisha Boy, Jerry also out of control ). However, their actual career began in the late 1950s with many small roles in American TV productions. A wider audience, they became acquainted with the television series Dr. Kildare. Her breakthrough came in 1963 but in the role of " Annie Hayworth " in Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds. It was followed by countless guest appearances in television series (such as in Bonanza, Gunsmoke, It Takes a Thief, The Chief or Kojak - Kojak ) and a firm commitment as Emily Hartley on the Bob Newhart Show. Since the mid- 1960s she has been seen in some Disney movies or listen to.

Pleshette also played successfully Theatre on Broadway.

In her last years she was among others in the sitcom Will & Grace (as Karen's mother ) and Simple Rules to see (as Cates mother).

In August 2006, her agent Joel Dean announced that she had been diagnosed with lung cancer Suzanne Pleshette and she was in treatment. In January 2008, a few days before her 71st birthday, she died from this disease.

On 31 January 2008 Suzanne Pleshette was posthumously honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame - representative Tina Sinatra accepted the award.
