Svenska Cupen

The Swedish Football Cup, (Swedish: Svenska Cupen ), is the national cup competition for club teams in the Swedish football. The winner qualifies for the UEFA Europa League.

Now since the introduction of new rules with fewer teams every year take part 98 teams. These are the 14 teams in the Fotbollsallsvenskan (1st League ), the 16-team Superettan (2nd league) and 68 teams from minor leagues.

Mode

The competition format of the national cup was repeatedly varied, at times the discharge of the imported due to lack of play opportunities of the national team during World War II competition was set.

By 2011, the cup competition in the knockout system has been played. This occurred in the first round of regional trophy winner and amateur representatives, until the second round, the representatives from Allsvenskan and Superettan were added. These 64 teams played in the later rounds of the Cup Winners' Cup, who was crowned in the final after the Erstligasaison.

Reformed in 2012, the Swedish National Association of the discharge mode in the future, a combination of knockout and round robin system is employed. During first regional trophy winner and amateur representatives respectively the adventitious in the second round teams from Allsvenskan and Superettan in a game play in the first two rounds as before in the knockout system to move up to the next round will be held the third round of a group stage instead of the then still represented 32 teams. In eight groups of progressing as group winners each quarter finalist is determined, then the competition is once again in the knockout system until discharged in the middle of the season in May Final game progresses.
