Symphony (grape)

Symphony is a white grape variety. Harold Olmo crossed them in 1940 at the University of California at Davis.

In 1983, the grape was introduced to the market. Currently, only small populations in California are planted with the variety Symphony. In 2008, the acreage was 918 acres (371 hectares).

Symphony is also known as the breeding line number Davis S15 -58 S15 -58 or California.

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In the ampelography the habit is described as follows:

  • The cone- shaped grape is shouldered and dichtbeerig. The roundish berries are medium in size and of a yellow greenish color. The flavor of the berries is aromatic (muscat -like).

The grew strong and profitable grape ripens about 30 days after Chasselas and is therefore a late maturing. It is a variety of the noble vine (Vitis vinifera ).
