Tamarez

Tamarez is an indigenous white grape variety in Portugal. Their cultivation is recommended in the regions of Beira Litoral, Beira Interior Norte Beira Interior Sul, Ribatejo and Oeste. Approved it is further in the regions of Trás -os- Montes and Algarve. The bestockte area was 1318 hectares in 1999. The variety has already been mentioned in writing in 1712 by Vincencio Alarte.

The late maturing variety produces acid- driven wines. It will therefore also be used to generate base wines for distillation.

In the region of Alentejo and Setúbal Tamarez is a synonym name of the variety Trincadeira das Pratas. Both varieties are not related to each other.

Synonyms are Arinto Gordo, Boal da Figueira, Boal Prior, Camarate, Crato Branco (not unequivocally assigned), Dona branca, Folha de Figueira, Malvasia, Molinho do Vau, Roupeiro, Santo Estevao Tamares, Tamarez d' Azeitãjo, Tamarez Branco, Tamarez Portalegre, Trincadeira das Pratas and Trincadeira do Douro.
