Tanya Plibersek

Tanya Plibersek ( born December 2, 1969 in Sydney ) is an Australian politician and since 2013 co-chair of the Labor Party and deputy opposition leader. Previously, she served as Minister (2007-2010) and as Minister of Health (2011-2013) in Australia.

Life

Plibersek was born in 1969 in Sydney, the daughter of Slovak immigrants. She is married and has three children.

Policy

In the parliamentary election in 1998, she was first elected for the constituency of Sydney in the Australian House of Representatives. The constituency they could claim for itself in the following elections. In the 2004 election, it was represented in the shadow cabinet of the Labor Party as Minister of Family and work. After the Labor Party picked up sharply in the parliamentary election in 2007 and form the government, she was sworn in as Minister under Kevin Rudd. This office she held from June 2010 to September 2010 under the leadership of Julia Gillard further. After a Labor minority government was formed under Gillard in September 2010, she resigned from the government.

In November 2011, Nicola Roxon resigned from the Office of the Minister of Health. Plibersek followed by Roxon and was then recaptured member of the Australian government. In the crucial vote for the party presidency in June 2013, she supported party leader Julia Gillard. Although Gillard adversary Rudd won the vote and became prime minister, he kept Plibersek in the Cabinet. After Labor lost the election in September 2013, Plibersek in her office by Peter Dutton ( Liberal Party ) was replaced.

After Kevin Rudd following the election defeat had consequences and resigned Plibersek was at the party congress in October 2013 deputy leader of the Labor Party. New party leader was Bill Shorten.
