Tara Donovan

Tara Donovan ( b. 1969 in New York) is an American artist. She lives and works in New York.

Life and work

Tara Donovan studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York and at the Corcoran College of Art, where she graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Fine Arts. In 1999, after studying at Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA, the degree of Master of Fine Arts.

Tara Donovan used for their seemingly often biomorphic sculptures and their large-scale installations unassuming everyday material such as straws, toothpicks, needles, nails, buttons. For each one of these starting materials, it creates crystalline, delicate membered, monochrome structures, which act like grown organically. In the U.S., Tara Donovan was honored with many awards, in 2008 she was awarded the prestigious MacArthur price.

In Europe the first time in 2013 a solo exhibition of Tara Donovan took place, which was shown sequentially at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark and the Arp Museum Bahnhof Rolandseck Remagen.
