Tauno Käyhkö

Tauno Käyhkö ( born May 6, 1950 in Rovaniemi ) is a former Finnish ski jumper and later Canadian.

Career

Käyhkö launched for the first time at the Four Hills Tournament 1969/70 at an international tournament. The tour was, however, largely unsuccessful. His best finish was a 22nd place in Bischofshofen. In the Nordic World Ski Championships 1970 in Vysoke Tatry he reached the 5th place on the large hill.

The Four Hills Tournament 1970/71 was much better than the previous one for Käyhkö. Already in the first competition in Oberstdorf, he came up with 9th place in the top ten. For New Year's competition in Garmisch -Partenkirchen, he stood for the first time in his career on the podium and finished jumping on the 3rd place. After he reached the 7th place in Innsbruck, he repeated in Bischofshofen once again his success of Partenkirchen. In the end he was in fourth place in the overall standings of the Tour.

The Four Hills Tournament 1971/72 began like the previous had ended. In the opening event of Innsbruck, he jumped to 3rd place. In the second event in Garmisch -Partenkirchen, he reached the 2nd place. In Oberstdorf, but it was only enough for a 12th place. Also in Bischofshofen he missed with 31 place a top ranking. Nevertheless, the final score was for the 3rd place in the overall standings tour. For shortly afterwards held the Olympic Winter Games in 1972 in Sapporo, Japan and the resulting simultaneous Nordic World Ski Championships, he finished on the large hill the 4th Place. At the normal hill end, he was tied with Henry Glaß 18th place

In the following years he was unable to repeat his success of the Four Hills Tournament and landed mostly on the rear seats. In the Nordic World Ski Championships 1974 in Falun, Sweden, he was on the normal hill sixth.

In 1975, Käyhkö the Association and launched from now on for Canada. In the Nordic World Ski Championships 1978 in Lahti Käyhkö reached the 5th place on the large hill. In 1979 he was part of the Canadian squad for the World Cup Ski Jumping newly created. His first World Cup competition he played on December 30, 1979 in Oberstdorf. On January 12, 1980, he was after an unsuccessful verlaufenen Four Hills Tournament 1979/80 in Sapporo for the first time win 10 World Cup points with space. Also at the World Cup in his new home in Canada in Thunder Bay, he reached 6 World Cup points with space. However, it was his last World Cup, and he finished the season in 55th place in the overall World Cup standings.

At the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid Käyhkö reached 26th place on the large hill and a 30th place on the normal hill.

After the Olympics Käyhkö ended his ski jumping career at the age of 30 years.
