Tavşan Adası

Tavşan Adası ( Turkish for Rabbit Island ), (Greek: Νέανδρος / Neandros Adası ) is the smallest of the Princes' Islands in Istanbul and belongs to the district Adalar.
History
In Byzantine times the island served as a quarry. The Patriarch Ignatius I. founded a monastery on the island, the remains of which can still be seen today. Inhabitants of the Greek island of Andros migrated to Tavşan Adası and gave it the name New Andros. On the island are still many fishermen native who catch lobsters in particular. The island is therefore also known as the island of fishermen.
