The album was produced by Chris Coady, who has already produced albums by TV on the Radio, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Blonde Redhead. The album is also the first album by the duo on Sub Pop in the UK, the album was released on Bella Union, in Mexico on Arts & Crafts.

Genesis

Shooting a Teen Dream took place for the previous album Devotion by extensive touring. The duo sought the creation of a more sophisticated album, and according to the group the demos of the plate were comparable to the final track. The use of elaborate reverb effect was significantly restrained. According to Alex Scally there is very little reverb on the plate.

The production of the album was considerably more expensive. Alex Scally in an interview with Pitchfork Media:

"All little money we had, we have spent. The record was hugely expensive. At each step along the way [ to the finished album ] we have tried to give more, to go further. "

Reception

The reception of the album was very positive. Metacritic, which gathers reviews from various publications, gives the album a rating of 82 /100. Many reviews noticed the sound change. BBC Music wrote:

" The best getroffenste sound on Teen Dream is the sound of a band that has found their own voice. "

Mark Richardson of Pitchfork Media gave the plate 9.0/10.0 points and called it " both the most diverse and hörbarste of three studio albums, and yet the plate never looks like a compromise. " Several reviews were focused on the vocals of Legrand. The Rolling Stone compared the song with a "singing dim torch ... excellent."

More Reviews, however, were less positive. Only 4/10 points awarded The Guardian. "Strange icy and melodically a little ineffectual ," the newspaper said. While The Austin Chronicle called the album constantly and there were three stars, is in the review that the duo " still have gold dust that needs to be blow away ."
