Storm Over Asia is a French adventure film from the year 1938. Directed by Richard Oswald Conrad Veidt plays the main role.
Action
The adventurer Keith Erich ago Fantastic. He wants to break up with a large expedition to East Asia and operate there on a large scale land acquisition. He hopes to spot large oil deposits that he intends to exploit. With him pull around 200 soldiers of fortune who also hope to great wealth. Keith's closest confidant, his pretty young girlfriend Suzanne and the botched physician Dr. Leclerc.
In Mongolia arrived, the hard Keith soon proves to be veritable despot. He treated the natives as slaves and enslaves and humiliates them such that they, revolt under the leadership of Prince Ling, the Keith also had insulted. Then when an epidemic breaks out, there will be a full-blown revolt, while Keith is killed. Production Notes
In October 1937 Director Oswald traveled with his crew to Bulgaria to establish there the exterior shots for the film. The world premiere of the film on April 21, 1938 in Paris. While Storm over Asia in Austria ( under the title Adventures in the Far East ) started off in 1948, the film was first shown in Germany on 27 October 1950 stayed there but widely ignored.
Storm Over Asia is the only sound film collaboration between Conrad Veidt and his great patron Richard Oswald. In 1937, their continuous rotation ( in the 1910s and 1920s ) Cooperation jährte for the twentieth time. Although both little later emigrated to Hollywood, where it caused no more cooperation.
At that produced by Oswald Rio film strip several emigrants were involved. As his production manager Oswald Fritz Brunn, the cutter Max Brenner took had also cut Oswald's horror story Uncanny Stories in Germany shortly before Hitler came to power. By also fled from Hitler's Germany Arnold Lippschitz Oswald wrote the book, the music was from another refugee, Ralph Erwin. The last working in Vienna cameraman Ted Pahle ( Bel Ami ) photographed the scene. Oswald's 18- year-old son Gerd served his father as an assistant director. From Japan the last rotating with Arnold Fanck actor Sessue Hayakawa was committed. In the Japanese Michiko Tanaka ( as Princess Shô ) is the future wife Viktor de Kowa.
For the lead role of Keith had been provided originally Erich von Stroheim.

In Variety states: " A moderately good adventure drama, Tempête sur l' Asie is set for success in this country Because of Conrad Veidt. It's almost a one-man film and Veidt makes all there is is to be made out of a story did sometimes is fantastic enough to seem ludicrous ... "
The lexicon of the International Films writes: "The story is poorly written carelessly staged and despite a good cast everything else played as well. "
