Tenhya

Region

Tenhya (also: Tenhia ) is a rural municipality in the department of Tanout in Niger.

Geography

Tenhya located in the northern Sahel. The neighboring municipalities are Aderbissinat the northwest, Tabelot in the northeast, Tesker in the east, the south and Tanout Tarka in the West. The municipality is divided into the administrative village Maigachi and 59 water points.

History

The rural community Tenhya was established as an administrative unit in 2002 as part of a nationwide administrative reform in a previously unincorporated area.

Population

At the 2001 census Tenhya had 15,122 inhabitants. For the year 2010 20.533 inhabitants were calculated. In Tenhya members of Fulbe Wodaabe subgroup and the Tuareg subgroups Ichiriffen, Imdan, Inesseliman, Ates Kel, Kel Iferwane and (in the west of the country community) Ifoghas, all of which specialize in remote pasture life.
