Teodósio de Gouveia

Cardinal Clemente de Gouveia Teodósio ( born May 13, 1889 in São Jorge, Madeira, Portugal, † February 6, 1962 in Lourenço Marques ) was Archbishop of Maputo.

Life

Teodosio Clemente de Gouveia attended the seminar of the Vincentians in French Dax and then studied in Paris, Rome ( Pontifical Portuguese College, Bergamo and lions fan Catholic theology and philosophy., 1919, he received the Sacrament of Holy Orders. During the years 1919-1929 he taught at the seminary of Funchal while also working as a parish pastor. from 1929 to 1936 he was vice- rector and rector of the Portuguese College in Rome.

1936 Pope Pius XI appointed him. Titular Bishop of Leuce and give him a charge to the prelates for Mozambique. He received his episcopal consecration Raffaele Cardinal Carlo Rossi. In 1941, Clemente de Gouveia Teodosio became the first Archbishop of the newly established Archdiocese of Lourenço Marques, now Maputo. On February 18, 1946 it took Pope Pius XII. as cardinal priest with the titular church of St. Peter in Chains in the College of Cardinals. Teodosio Clemente de Gouveia died on February 6, 1962 in Maputo, and was buried in the local cathedral.
