Teplice nad Metují

Teplice nad Metují ( German Weckelsdorf, also Wekelsdorf ) is a city on the river Mettau ( Metuje ) in the eastern Bohemian Okres Náchod, Hradec Králové Region (Czech Republic).

Geography

Teplice is located between the Giant Mountains and the Falk Mountains on the eastern edge of the Adersbach - Teplice Rocks. Neighboring towns are Meziměstí and Bohdašín in the Northeast, Police and Zdar in the southeast, and Stárkov Česká Metuje in the south, Dolni Vernéřovice (sub Wernersdorf ) and Jívka in the southwest and Janovice in the West. South-west are the ruins of the castle Skály ( Bischofstein ), southeast lies the nature reserve Ostaš.

History

The first written mention dates from 1362, in which the village was first mentioned under the name " Guweynsdorf alias teplicz " in the justified from the Prague Archbishop Ernest of Pardubice Confirmation books. The place at that time belonged to Tas of giant castle.

The market Wekelsdorf had on December 1, 1930 1205 inhabitants, on 17 May 1939 were 1,199 and on May 22, 1947 842 inhabitants.

Attractions

  • The St. Lawrence's Church was built in 1724 in the Baroque style by Johann Straka of Nedabylice (Jan Straka z Nedabylic ).
