Terchová

Terchová (Hungarian Terhely - to 1902 Tyerhova ) is a municipality with about 4000 inhabitants in the north-western Slovakia near the district capital of Žilina.

The municipality, 25 km east of Žilina, is one of the most important tourist places in the Mala Fatra. Here the Slovak national hero Juraj Jánošík and the court librarian Adam František Kollár were born.

The first written mention is dated April 22, 1580. The municipality is divided into the actual site as well as the 1991 eingemeindeten place Horna Tižina.
