The Cat Empire

The Cat Empire is a six-piece band from Melbourne, Australia. Their songs are shaped by the influences of jazz, ska, reggae, funk, Latin to hip hop, klezmer and rock.

With already three successful albums, EPs and some live recordings and performances around the world, they are one of the most successful bands of Australia. The band's name and the band logo come from Max Riebl, the younger brother of lead singer Felix Riebl.

History

, 1999, Oliver McGill, Felix Riebl and Ryan Monro with smaller gigs in Melbourne. Initially occupied only with keyboard, double bass, percussion and vocals, Harry James Angus came in 2001 on trumpet, Will Hull -Brown on drums and Jamshid " Jumps" Khadiwala as a DJ to do so.

In 2001, she appeared at the Melbourne Festival and brought on at the end of the year, the single " Feline " and the " Live at Adelphia " EP out. After the beginning of 2002, some gigs at the Adelaide Festival of Arts played, they came a little bit later at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and the St Kilda Film Festival in March headlining.

This was followed by sold-out performances in San Francisco and at the Edinburgh Festival, where they played 3-5 clock 16 appearances in the Late 'n' Live Show in the morning.

In 2004, she played for the first time in Germany and gave a concert in Karlsruhe. As part of its world tour in 2006 they gave further concerts in Germany, for example, in the sold-out Berlin Kalkscheune or free at the Nuremberg Bardentreffen.

Course of 2007, to see The Cat Empire live in Germany and Austria. In the same year, the band also appeared at the festivals Rock am Ring and Rock im Park.

2009 was followed by the "Live on Earth " World Tour, which toured in Germany and Austria.

On July 6, 2010, the new album Cinema appeared in Germany. In autumn 2010, The Cat Empire were to be seen live in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich and Cologne.

In November 2012 was The Cat Empire concerts in Munich, Berlin, Hamburg, Strasbourg and Vienna.

On May 17, 2013 they released their current studio album " Steal the light", which includes 12 new songs.

  • Felix Riebl ( lead singer, percussion) was born on 1 May 1981 his father is Austrian and his mother Australian. He has a younger brother named Max, who created the band name The Cat Empire and the band logo.
  • Ollie McGill ( keyboard, piano, melodica, saxophone, backing vocals, recorder ) was also born in 1981. He played in 8 bands and mastered several musical instruments.
  • Ryan Monro ( bass, electric bass, backing vocal ) was born on 26 July 1981. He was with Felix and Ollie the founder of The Cat Empire.
  • Harry James Angus ( lead vocalist, trumpet, guitar ) was born on 11 June 1982. He is the second lead singer and trumpeter of The Cat Empire. He joined the band along with Will and " jumps " in the year 2001.
  • Will Hull Brown ( drums) was born on 11 August 1982. He brought the rock influence in the sound of the Cats.
  • Jamshid " Jumps" Khadiwala (DJ) came across as Last of the Cats. He led the other band members in the world of hip hop.
