The Cinematic Orchestra

The Cinematic Orchestra ( TCO) is a British band. It was founded in the late 1990s by Jason Swinscoe and released their albums under the London independent label Ninja Tune. Her style is a mixture of jazz improvisation and electronica.

Other band members are currently the bassist Phil France, guitarist Stuart McCallum, pianist Nick Ramm, saxophonist Tom Chant, the drummer Luke Flowers and singer-songwriter Patrick Watson, and occasional guest musicians.

Attention was the band with a review of the film Dziga Vertov's experimental music to silent film The man with the camera, which was commissioned by the organizers of the festival of Porto European Capital of Culture of 2000 in order. The soundtrack was recorded live during the performance of TCO.

On their albums and Every Day "Ma Fleur", the band collaborated with the American soul singer Fontella Bass.

History

While Swinscoe Art at Cardiff College student, he founded the group in 1990 and published a Crabladder official single on his own label "Power Tools". 1994 Swinscoe got a job as a DJ at Heart FM, a pirate radio station in south London.

The band's sound - both live and in the context of the studio - includes first, a live jazz band which improvises along with a turntablist and other elements of electronic music, such as the samples of Swinscoe. In their studio releases Swinscoe mixes the live material often new, to produce a finished product that combines the live jazz improvisation seamlessly with electronic music.

The debut album of the Cinematic Orchestra, Motion, was released in 1999. The enormous success of the album led to the band for the Directors Guild of America Award Ceremony was invited to perform during the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award for the director Stanley Kubrick.

In addition, the band of the organizers of the festival of Porto, European Capital of Culture in 2001, was asked to produce a new film score for the Russian silent film classic of 1929, The Man with a Camera by Dziga Vertov and play this live during the film presentation.
