The Confession is a British short film directed by Tanel Toom. The drama published in 2010, was nominated for an Oscar in 2011.

Action

Sam, an eight year old boy who goes to a private Catholic school, is on the verge of the first confession. However, he has a problem: There is nothing he would have to confess. However, since he thinks that he could only be a good Catholic, if he had something to confess, he turns to his classmates Jacob. This tells us that he would confess that he did not listen to his mother and his sister had locked up in the basement. In desperation, Sam asks Jacob to commit a sin with him.

The two decide friends to steal a scarecrow, thus violating one of the Ten Commandments. The two steal the scarecrow and place them so that the farmer would have to discover on his journey home. But the plan backfires: A motorist holds the scarecrow for a corpse, dodges her and crashes into a tree. The driver and her daughter are killed. Terrified flee the two children with the Scarecrow and throw them into a crevice.

Jacob Sam tries to convince them that it was an accident, and warns him to anyone what to say. But for Sam, the guilt is too heavy. When his father at the dinner of the disappeared Scarecrow tells Sam thinks that knew of his guilt. The two friends meet at the crevice and got into a fight. In a tussle Sam accidentally knocks Jacob down the cliff.

The next day the confession is attached. Sam, coat the priest almost to confess the first allowed. When he sits in the confessional, he confesses to the priest, but only that he did not listen to his mother and his sister had locked up in the basement. The priest granted absolution Sam.

Tanel Tooms melodrama about atonement and guilt was established with a budget of $ 7,000. It was the thesis of Tanel Toom at the National Film and Television School. The film won the Student Academy Award in the category " Best Foreign Film ". 2011, the film was nominated for an Oscar for "Best Short Film ", losing to God of Love.
