An interdisciplinary group of scientists designed over several years total possible scenarios for the long-term evolution on Earth without human influence and likely taking into account the geological and climatic changes. In each case, biotopes and possible living in them newly formed species in five, 100 and 200 million years ago (: Ice Age, Episode 2: Greenhouse, Episode 3: Episode 1 Neuland) have been designed with elaborate and computer animation and visualization technology.

The possible by today's measurement results further shifting of the tectonic plates and the associated drastic climatic changes through increased volcanism could on the one hand lead to a large-scale extinction of many species, on the other hand to form a single new supercontinent Amasien, the opposite would be a huge world ocean. Since therefore reduces the food supply for surviving species of fish and they have to travel long distances, they make their pectoral fins into wings and their swim bladder to the lungs. They could fly in search of food long distances across the ocean and breed on land. They would take the place of the extinct marine birds. This hypothetical evolution has been designated by the portmanteau Flisch.

In addition to the Flischen a number of other possible new species have been described. The development is based on the known laws of previous evolution ( for example, there are already " flying fish ", which is jumping long distances and move by gliding over the water ), but it is not mandatory, but rather one of many possible. In the future vision shown, there are - according to the detectable trend for thousands of years to the extinction of mammals - no more people, as there is an earth influenced by people not deemed to be in the context of evolutionary theory to predict.

There is an animated series called The Future Is Wild, currently airing on RTL 2 in which the creatures of the documentation are included. Also the book Pangaea - The Eighth Day, based in large part on the films. An exhibition on the TV program is shown in Dinosaur Münchehagen (as of 2013).
