The Italian Socialists

Socialisti Uniti ( German United Socialists, SU ) is a small social democratic party in Italy. As a spin-off of Nuovo PSI it was formed in 2006 under the name I Socialisti, renamed itself in 2007 Socialisti Italiani 2009 and took its present name.

History

Reason for the split and the creation of a new party was the dispute over whether the Nuovo PSI continue to support the coalition of Silvio Berlusconi (Casa delle Libertà ) or Unione, the center- left coalition led by Romano Prodi, should run as Vittorio " Bobo " Craxi, son of former Prime Minister Bettino Craxi, had proposed. However, at the party conference in October 2005, Craxi and Saverio Zavettieri could not against the former leader of the Nuovo PSI, Gianni De Michelis, prevail; after several months of dispute in the party, the group decided to Craxi and Zavettieri on 7 February 2006 to resign and establishing the new party I Socialisti. The 2006 parliamentary elections were the Socialisti on the list of Ulivo, since they would probably not reach on their own two- percent hurdle.

On the first party congress on 10./17. March 2007 notified the party into Socialisti Italiani.

In October 2007, the Socialisti Italiani involved together with the Socialisti Democratici Italiani (SDI ) and various other social democratic and socialist groups in the creation initiative for the new collection party Partito Socialista. It was also Craxi and De Michelis Zavettieris old companion, who had now turned away by the Nuovo PSI. Since Zavattieri the founding treaty, however, at the last minute refused to sign, occurred only Craxi and Franco Simone on as individuals to the newly founded Partito Socialista (PS).

When the Partito Socialista (PS ) in the fall of 2009 was planning a merger with the party Sinistra Ecologia Libertà (SEL ), Craxi summarized briefly a return to the Socialisti Italiani eye, which at a party congress October 10, 2009 already have their re-naming in Socialisti Uniti had decided. However, when the merger of HP and SEL failed to Craxi but then decided to stay with the PS.

Since 2011 Zavattieris Socialisti Uniti work closely with the reformist Italiani Stefania Craxi order.
