Criticism

The lexicon of the International Films wrote:

" 1876 succeeds the police to infiltrate a spy into a secret organization in Pennsylvania, fighting for better working conditions for Irish miners. Despite being aware of their situation and understanding of their situation, he betrays his comrades. Gripping staged drama about right and wrong, guilt and atonement, staged epic wide, but with some pretty tough scenes. The film is indeed more interested in the exciting criminal act as its critical possibilities, but nevertheless gives some of the social background. ".

Awards

The film was nominated for Best Art Direction in 1971 for an Oscar in the category.
