The Scarecrow is the third album by the German metal opera Avantasia, released on January 25, 2008. The project was initiated by Tobias Sammet, vocalist of the power metal band Edguy. He also wrote all the songs and lyrics. This album led to the first tour of the project, The Scarecrow World Tour.
Construction
As with its predecessor, the individual items are connected together by a common history, but the role of a singer this time is not defined. A passage was rather connected here by the generated mood with a singer. It is told by a person who perceives things differently than all others and thereby isolated and misunderstood occurs. It is assumed that this album contains autobiographical elements.

The Scarecrow was by music critics rated mostly good. So Andreas Schöwe wrote from Metal Hammer, for example, "Despite the large number of guest musicians and its bursting with variety, tempo changes and lush orchestrations THE SCARECROW design leaves an extremely compact, homogeneous and liquid impression. Alone for there can be only the highest note! "
