The Temptations

The Temptations are an American music group.

The Temptations in 1960 in Detroit (Michigan ) was founded as a vocal quintet. During the 1960s, the group became a successful Soul lineup.

History

The founding members were:

Paul Williams (tenor ), ( born July 2, 1939 † August 17, 1973 ) ( 1960-1971 )
Otis Williams (aka Otis Miles ) (tenor ) ( born October 30, 1939 in Texarkana, Texas (1960 to present)
Elbridge " Al " Bryant (tenor ), (born 28 September 1939 † October 26, 1975 ) ( 1960-1963 )
Eddie Kendricks (lead tenor / falsetto ), ( born December 17, 1939 † October 5, 1992 ) ( 1960-1971 and 1982 )
Melvin Franklin ( David actually English) ( bass), born October 12, 1942 † February 23, 1994 ) ( 1960-1994 )

The end of 1963 Elbridge Bryant was kicked out of the group and replaced by David Ruffin. Under the producer Smokey Robinson to get the first hits Temptations (My Girl 1965, You're My Everything, 1967). In 1968, for Ruffin Dennis Edwards, and producer Norman Whitfield changed the sound of contemporary Black catchy pop to the mixture of psychedelic embossed soul-rock with funk elements and social criticism inspired texts. With I Can not Get Next To You (1970) Just My Imagination (1971) and Papa Was a Rollin 'Stone (1972 ) landed the Temptations acclaimed hits and reached the peak of their popularity.

Mid-1960s was Berry Gordy, founder of Motown Records, his biggest stars to record their hits in different languages for the European market again. So there are songs in German, Spanish, French and Italian. 1965 by the Temptations was the single My Girl ( My Girl) with the back of Bluebird on German out in Italian called My Girl Solamente lei.

1973 Paul Williams took his own life. In the following years the band broke up slowly. Eddie Kendricks get some modest solo success. After several reunions initially led Dennis Edwards Temptations since the 1980s as a show band on.

The founding member Otis Williams has together with Patricia Romanowski written the story of the Temptations in 1988 and published as a book.

In 1999, the Temptations have been added to the Vocal Group Hall of Fame.

The group led by Otis Williams in the cast with Ron Tyson, Terry Weeks, Walter " Joe" Herndon and Bruce Williamson was still the end of 2007 as part of a European tour six concerts in Germany, where she performed together with the Four Tops.
