The Two Gentlemen of Verona

Two Gentlemen of Verona, in the Schlegel -Tieck translation The Two Gentlemen of Verona, ( engl. The Two Gentlemen of Verona ) is a romantic comedy of William Shakespeare's early work. The work was composed 1590-1595.

Action

The two childhood friends Valentine and Proteus are the two gentlemen of Verona. Valentin leaves the city and travels to Milan to seek his fortune at the court of the Duke of Milan. Proteus first remains in Verona because he loves Julia and she did not want to leave. But his father tells him to leave the next day to the farm to Milan. When they parted, he and Julia rings exchange.

At the court of Milan, Valentine falls in love with Silvia, daughter of the Duke; but also arrived Proteus falls in love with her. He forgets Julia and woos Silvia, but to marry the wealthy courtier Thurio. In order to secure the favor of the Duke, Proteus tells the Duke that Valentine Silvia wants to kidnap. The Duke then banished Valentin from Milan. Meanwhile, Julia, disguised as a boy, put up to Milan to meet Proteus. There Silvia scorns Proteus vows of love. This now contributes to Sebastian, the disguised Julia, to bring his requests (from Julia ) Ring Silvia.

The exiled Valentin is ambushed in a forest between Milan and Mantua by robbers, who are just as he banished. When they find out his story, they are so impressed that they want to make him their leader, including Valentin basically agreed. Silvia sets out to find Valentin. Proteus, Sebastian, the Duke and Thurio break on their part to find Silvia. In the forest Silvia is taken by the outlaws and taken to their leader. As well as Proteus and Sebastian arrive there, says Valentin, that he may give Silvia Proteus, what Sebastian faints. Then Sebastian shows two rings: the one he should bring Silvia, and those who gave the Proteus Julia, and Julia pretends to be seen. Thereupon, Proteus decides for Julia; Valentin wins the favor of the Duke and his daughter's hand. - For the necessary humor in the play speed and lance, the lackeys of the nobles, and the silly courtier Thurio care.
