The Villages is a census -designated place (CDP ) in Sumter County in the U.S. state of Florida with 51 442 inhabitants ( 2010). Small parts of the village are also in the counties and Lake Marion. It is a so-called gated community.

Geography

The village is located about 90 km north- west of Orlando and is tangent to a common line of U.S. Highways 27 and 441, and by the Florida State Road 500.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 51 442 inhabitants distributed to 35,587 households. The population density was 3,839 inh. / Km ². 98.2 % of the population were white, 0.6 % African American, 0.1% Native American and 0.7 % Asian Americans. 0.1 % were members of other ethnic groups and 0.3 % of various ethnicities. 1.5% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 79.7 % of all households lived in 0.3 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 71.8 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 1.80 persons and the average family size is 2.05 people.

0.4 % of the population were younger than 20 years, 1.1% were 20 to 39 years old, 10.0% were 40-59 years old and 88.5 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 69 years. 46.8 % of the population were male and 53.2 % female.

The average annual income was $ 51,234, while 3.7 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 96.0 % of the population and 4.0 % had a different mother tongue.
