Thomas Anthony Welch

Thomas Anthony Welch ( born November 2, 1884 in Faribault, Minnesota, USA, † September 9, 1959 in Duluth ) was bishop of Duluth.

Life

Thomas Anthony Welch studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the College of St. Thomas and at the Seminary in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He received on 11 June 1909, the sacrament of Holy Orders.

From 1909 to 1918 Welch was private secretary to Archbishop John Ireland and from 1919 to 1922 by Archbishop Austin Dowling. Since 1918, Thomas Anthony Welch was also Chancellor and Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Saint Paul. In February 1924 he was awarded by Pope Pius XI. the honorary title of Pontifical domestic prelates.

On December 14, 1925, he was named by Pope Pius XI. Bishop of Duluth. The Archbishop of Saint Paul, Austin Dowling, donated to him on February 3, 1926, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Fargo, James O'Reilly, and the Bishop of Saint Cloud, Joseph Francis Busch.
