Thomas Howard, 5th Duke of Norfolk

Thomas Howard, 5th Duke of Norfolk ( * March 9, 1627 at Arundel House in London, † December 13, 1677 in Padua ) was an English nobleman. His full title was Thomas Howard, 5th Duke of Norfolk, Earl of Arundel 23, 6th Earl of Surrey, 3rd Earl of Norfolk.

Thomas Howard was the son of Henry Frederick Howard, 22nd Earl of Arundel, and his wife Elizabeth Stuart of Lennox. He succeeded his father in 1652 as Earl of Arundel and his mother in 1654 as Baron Furnivall. During his education, Thomas became ill with a fever, so his spirit state was added to permanent damage.

Thomas was the great-grandson of Thomas Howard, 4th Duke of Norfolk. When in 1660 the title of Duke of Norfolk was restored, Thomas saw himself as the senior branch of the family as a fifth Duke of Norfolk. The problem associated with the Dukedom Office of the Earl Marshal, however, was exercised because of his mental illness of his brother Henry.

Thomas died unmarried and childless at age 50 in Padua.
