Thomas Laub

Thomas Linnemann Laub ( born December 5, 1852 in Langå, Langå Sogn, Fyn, † February 4, 1927 in Gentofte ) was a Danish organist and composer, who turned to the church music.

Foliage grew up as the son of a vicar in Langå and Fredericia. At the Soro Akademi he acquired in 1871, the study authorization. After dropping theology studies, he enrolled at the Danish Academy of Music, where he was trained as organists. He then worked at three Copenhagen churches as vicar at Trinity Kirke (1877-1881) and as organist at the Helligåndskirken (1884-1891) and at the Holmen Kirke ( 1891-1925 ).

Under the influence of a long journey in Italy (1882-1883) and a brief stay in England ( 1886) published in 1887 leaves the hymnbook Om Kirkesangen, where he first campaigned for a renewal of the church singing. Despite massive criticism from other musicians, he insisted on his reform plans, which triggered a public debate from. The focus of his other, numerous compositions lay on church music and folk songs, later he focused on folk song.

Leaves died in 1927 at the age of 74 years and was buried at the Gentofte Kirkegård (cemetery Gentofte ).
