Thomas of Cori

Thomas of Cori, OFM ( born June 4, 1655 in Cori, Lazio, Italy, † January 11, 1729 in Civitella, Italy ) was an Italian Franciscan and a priest. He is a saint in the Catholic Church.

Thomas worked after the death of his parents as a shepherd to support his sisters financially. After both were powered by marriage, he joined the Franciscan Order, where he completed his novitiate in Orvieto. In 1683 he was ordained priest. He lived from 1684 to his death as a hermit in the Franciscan monastery of Civitella. From 1703 to 1709 Thomas was Guardian of the Convention of Palombara, where he also installed its ritiro, for which he wrote a rule, as he had already done it for Bellegra. At the same time Thomas worked as a popular and successful popular preacher in the area of Subiaco.

Thomas was instituted by Pope Pius VI. 1785 holy beatified and Pope John Paul II on 21 November 1999. In the ceremony in the Vatican Basilica at the same time also saw the canonization of Benedetto Menni and Cirilo Bertran with eight companions and Inocencio de la Inmaculada.
