Thomas William Webb

The pastor ( " Reverend " ) Thomas William Webb ( * December 14, 1807, † May 19, 1885 ) was a British amateur astronomer. Some sources give 1806 as his birth year.

He went to Oxford and then became a pastor. He served in this office in various places, including in Gloucester. Finally he came in 1852 after Hardwick near the border with Wales. Here he wrote the (classic later became ) field guide " Celestial Objects for Common Telescopes ," he is still known today by the especially.

An association founded in 1967 by astronomers was named after him Webb Society.

The lunar crater Webb is named after him.
