Thomson is located in Carroll County in the northwestern part of the U.S. state of Illinois at the Illinois State Route 84 near the Mississippi with 559 inhabitants.
North of the village is located to the Thomson Correctional Center, a modern, but mostly untapped high-security prison.
Thomson is known for cultivation of watermelons, which has introduced the place nicknamed Melon Capital of the World.
Geography
Thomson is located at 41 ° 57 ' 31 " north latitude and 90 ° 05' 56 " west longitude approximately 1.5 km east of the Mississippi River, 15 km north- west of Clinton, Iowa, 60 km northeast of the Quad Cities and approximately 190 kilometers west of Chicago.
