Thrasyvoulos Zaimis

Thrasivoulos Zaimis (Greek Θρασυβούλος Ζαΐμης, born October 22, 1822 in Kalavrita ( Achaia ), † October 27, 1880 ) was a Greek politician and Prime Minister.

Family and studies

Zaimis was the son of freedom fighter and President of the Provisional Government from 1826 to 1827, Andreas Zaimis. He graduated in law in France. His son Alexandros Zaimis was also Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Greece and Prime Minister and President of the first Hellenic Republic.

Political career

Zaimis began his political career in 1850 with the election of deputies of the National Assembly ( Vouli ton Ellinon ). These elected him throughout his parliamentary activity four times as its president.

Later, he was several times minister in various governments. In 1864 he was a representative in the negotiations with Britain, which led to a connection of the Ionian Islands to Greece after the coronation of King George I..

From February 6, 1869 to July 22, 1870 and November 9, 1871 to January 6, 1872, he was Prime Minister.
