Thusy

Thusy is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Thusy is located at 575 m above sea level. M., approximately 15 km west-northwest of the city of Annecy ( straight line ). The farming village extends a scenic location in the northern Albanais, on a sloping towards the west slope high above the valley of the Morge, in the hills between the valleys of the Fier and Usses.

The area of ​​10.74 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Genevois. The western boundary runs along the Morge, a right-hand side of the brook Fier. From the creek, the municipality's area extends eastward over a gently rising slope up to the mountain areas of Thusy and Saint- Eusèbe and to the northeast in the headwaters of the Morge. While the highs are usually passed with meadows, there are in the valleys of larger forest areas. With 728 meters. M. is reached on the wooded height of Sallongy the highest elevation of Thusy.

History

The territory of Thusy was already inhabited in Roman times. In the 19th century a Roman coin hoard was found from the 3rd century. For the first time Thusy is first mentioned in the 9th century.

Attractions

The village church of Saint -Jean -Baptiste in 1825 built on the site of an earlier house of worship; the bell tower ( 1663 ) still comes from the old church. At the site of the former chapel of Sallongy, which was destroyed in 1720, there is a cross. In the area of Thusy there are several stately homes, including the one in Charrière -Bas from the 13th century and the Maison du Châtelard which originates in its present state in the 19th century, but in some cases on the remains of which date back to the 13th century, stands.

Population

With 927 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Thusy one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the population steadily increased due to high levels of emigration from (1861 were still 1080 inhabitants counted in Thusy ).
